Campus Recruiting: Then vs Now

2020 has forced us to rethink campus recruiting in its entirety.

We didn’t quite ask for it, but the year 2020 has demanded recruiting in all forms to radically change. Included in that, of course, is college campus recruiting. While college and universities will have varied approaches to campus recruiting during the 2021-2022 school year, one thing is clear: virtual campus recruiting is here to stay. Thus, campus recruiting must take on a number of new forms in order to not only survive, but flourish in the era of virtual recruitment. 

Previously, campus recruiting involved sending recruiters and recent graduates to their respective college campuses in order to attract students on campus, develop ongoing relationships with career centers, meet face to face with candidates, and build an recurring pipeline for the sake of future talent acquisition. Yet, despite the inherent positives in person campus recruiting brings, it is also incredibly time consuming, logistically challenging, expensive, and a generally inefficient way to recruit.

Meanwhile, virtual campus recruiting doesn’t require the same budgetary commitments, time-consuming travel commitments, and erases both the logistical and geographical difficulties. Ultimately, virtual campus recruiting can benefit both the recruitment team and the student body with increased efficiency on either side. 

Yet, how does one maximize efficiency in the virtual recruiting space? A recent study conducted by Yello found that recruiters find video interviews the most effective way to leverage campus recruiting. In the same study, students also came to a similar conclusion that video interviews are the most important virtual recruitment tool. Thus, how does one maximize efficiency in the virtual campus recruiting space? Utilizing video.

Video can be embedded in any part of the recruitment process from sourcing talent to interviews to the onboarding process, creating a mutually beneficial scenario for both the recruitment team and the candidates! Many companies are returning to campus for the 2021-2022 recruiting year with video already enabled, don’t get left behind!
